A memorial service for Misty Gerner will be held at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries (ECM) building in Lawrence at 3 p.m. on Sunday 17 September 2006
Click here for a map showing the location of ECM. Parking at the ECM building is very limited, but there is ample parking available in the KU Union parking garage about 100 meters to the south (entrance from Oread Ave).
The major airport closest to Lawrence is Kansas City International (abbreviation: MCI -- here's why...). It is [competitively] served by most of the major carriers. Shuttle service to Lawrence is available but not all that reliable; it is probably easier (and quite possibly cheaper) to rent a car. The drive is easy, and much prettier than you are probably expecting.
It takes about an hour to get from the airport to Lawrence -- go north on I-29 out of the airport and follow the signs to "Topeka", exiting first to I-435 south and then to I-70 west (click here for a map).
Lawrence has the usual range of hotels, though only two are downtown: Springhill Suites (Marriott) and the historic Eldridge Hotel, favored target of pro-slavery guerrillas prior to and during the Civil War (it's since been repaired...). If you prefer a B&B, I particularly recommend the Halcyon House. This link will take you to the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce "accomodation" web site.
If you are interested in making a contribution in Misty's memory, she had particular interest in the "Ad Mundum" ("to the world") fund at her undergraduate alma mater, Earlham College (http://www.earlham.edu/). This is an endowment that she established a number of years ago to provide need-based supplemental funding to undergraduates doing study abroad. Earlham's contributions website
https://www.applyweb.com/public/contribute?s=EARLHAMC
could presumably be used for this.
